Gardens and cancer

Oh dear reader, I've been reading your blogs through google reader but I just haven't had the time to make my rounds. How do you all keep blogging through the busyness? And some of you have such thought provoking posts going on. I just wish I could sit down with a cuppa and visit with you all. But no, nature calls, and the summer work plods on relentlessly.

Ya gotta love summer though. Every morning as I do the watering I plop juicy strawberries and and sweet blueberries into my mouth. The entire watering experience is a fruit fest! Last night I fertilized everything. I had planted a black leafed plant earlier this spring and now I forget the name of it but by the looks of it I suspect its a hosta. Anyway that thing just turned to a crisp yesterday. The weather is only in the 80's and I kid you not, you could touch the leaves and they'd just crumble like cookies. So it looks like I will be moving that plant into the shade today before I lose it entirely!

I also have to put up the flashing to scare the birds out of my blueberries. They are having a regular party out there. The berries in the back yard are ripe cause they are an earlier variety then the front yard ones. The birds are feasting at any given time. Between the blueberries, the strawberries and the Bing cherries that are ripe in the orchard, all in close proximity, I think we have every bird in the county in the yard!

I have had nothing but problems with my beans this year. Tink replanted them the other night since only 5 plants out of five rows made it through the first planting. Now I go out there to check the seeds and lo, a mole has discovered my garden is a wonderful place to be and more then that, the bean patch is his chosen spot! I could just pull my hair out!

And speaking of gardens Im about to post more pics of the flower gardens. My front sun bed is in its prime. which is a shame really seeing as how it's only the beginning of July. Every year I vow to plant something in there that will come up in the late summer because by then there is nothing left save the daisies. But boy, right now it's a thing of beauty.

Do you wanna know something funny? Okay, my main interior house color upstairs is different shades of yellow. No matter how I try to buy plants carefully it ends up that my sun garden is all yellow too. The other day I said to myself, "Self you need some other color out front," so I picked up a pink cosmos. Now I know cosmos are prolifically grown through seed but I was in a hurry to add my color. Well I got the dumb thing home and lo, it was a yellow cosmos! So I will just have more yellow in my already yellow bed. What can I say? I just love yellow.

Mr. Darling has had one minor nosebleed since the cauterizing but otherwise the procedure seems to be holding. My Dad is doing fine but is not getting better as fast as the doctors led us to believe. He still needs our prayers. And speaking of prayers, I just found out my cousins wife, Stephanie, was diagnosed last week with thyroid cancer. She is 36 I believe and has two young children. I did some reading on the Internet and her kind of cancer has a 97% chance of a cure. So that makes us all relieved. At any rate its all in Gods hands and your prayers are coveted. You can go to Jethros World, her husbands blog, if you'd like to leave a comment there in support and let them know you are going to pray with them about this.

It sounds as if your garden has plenty of God's creatures in it! Maybe you could entice Tink to think up a solution! That could keep her busy for a bit! Just a thought!
I think I have a bit more time to keep up with my blog reading because I do not have a huge garden to keep up with!

Beans... beans... beans... I was so excited to get my garden going this year, just to find out that I can't can beans on my stove! AH! I have a glass surface stove top and was told that it could shatter with the pressure canner. Not good! Soooooooooooooo... I guess that I have to freeze them! Bummer!
As far as your beans, could it be this crazy weather that we are having the the great NW???
So sorry to hear about your cousin! We'll add this to out prayer list!

I use to freeze all my beans until i ran out of freezer space. I actually like them better that way. And yep, those kind of stovetops are not for canning. I warn everyone about that. That little fact doesnt come in the manual! :)

I love yellow flowers. Any of them. All of them! =D

Summer tends to get busy for us, too. So my great plans of blogging daily moves to every other day and sometimes every 3 or 4 days... LOL!

But I love the community here!

Is it green beans you had trouble with? Ours didn't do good either, 5 plants out of two rows. I think its the seasons being all messed up. Someone told me we are 180 degree days behind schedule, not sure what that means other than in May I normally had flowers blooming all over the place and mine didn't bloom this year til half of june was over.
I take a break every now and then and that's when I hop online and read a few blogs through out the day lol
