So my readers helped me out once again! I deleted the Followers gadget from my blog and I am no longer having problems! What a relief that is! I do miss my gadget though. I liked watching my Followers tally up. Ah, so vain of me I know. I guess one can still follow by clicking on the "Follow this blog" in the tool bar at the top. I don't know if by doing that I will actually get to see your pretty face in my Followers space on my dashboard, but we shall see.
This morning is cool and misty. It rained pretty good last yesterday. It was nice in that it watered everything but it was bad in that it watered everything from the top! Now my long stemmed daisies are weighted over with the weight of the water, their heads nodding to the ground. Petunias are sticky with rot. How petunias despise overhead watering! The huge leafed plants in the garden are listlessly dropping. This weekend I canned pickles, froze squash, froze broccoli and picked 2 gallon of blueberries. I'm up to 20 pounds of berries off my bushes now and that is just the first two pickings. If we get a little more heat those bushes are going to just explode with berries!
My brother came over early Saturday morning and brought us a cord and a half of wood for free. We are doing a barter with him. My husband is going to pipe his water to the back of his wood stove to be heated in return for free wood. I love knowing that wood is out there now again. We were down to apple limbs for wood by the end of May. Now we can pick up in the fall and know there is wood for the year. Of course, we will have to get another cord. My brother will give us that too. But we go through a little over 2 cord a year which really isn't much but its everything if you run out!
The week of Bible School is over and now I am focused on Friday. Friday we leave for the Southern Oregon coastal town of Bandon. I rented a house by the river for Edward and Wendy and us and kids. My brother, not the one that brought the wood, is going to be yurt camping in the state campground just a few hundred yards up river. My mom and dad will be coming out during the week for a few days to join us.
I positively am giddy with excitement. Its been ages since I have been so excited for a vacation. I am just so ready for it. Besides I love the house we are renting and the coastal town and the fact that my brother will be out there too. My friends are going to be here at the house and do the watering and garden and take care of things.
Speaking of friends taking care of things, I need to go today and pick blueberries for my friend who is out of town for three weeks. I'm going to freeze the blueberries and give them to her even though she told me to go ahead and keep them. I certainly don't need them!
My freezer is getting very full and I haven't even reached the main harvest! We need to get a lot of heat around here or we are going to have another year of the green tomato and green pumpkin.
Well I must go. The neighbor kid is at the door and another summer day has arrived. I'm going to focus on yard work today and see if I cant get things straightened up out there while the weather is cool.

sounds like fun!!! I'm hoping to make bread and butter pickles...if my cukes come in. I have done zuchinni pickles and they were just as good, in fact you couldn't really tell the difference.
Yes, we use to do tons of zucchinni pickles when I was a girl but I dont make them anymore. I somehow grew tired of them.
I am somewhat envious of your garden harvest- ours is toast!! Literally, everything is dying and dried up here. Our poor little plants just can't take the heat. I would rather live somewhere a little less extreme in the heat so we can actually get a decent harvest! We just haven't had time to tend to it like it needed either- too much happening!
This is off topic but a week or so ago I read a post concerning cooking & I believe homekeeping...you mentioned you would never do without your.........it was a book of sometype..at the time I thought ohhh I have to check that out...I've since lost those notes..and can't find the post again! I have no idea where in your blog it was. I'd just found you and started reading..and reading..any idea what it was? HELP!
Goodness Katidids I have no idea. For cooking I cant live without my Taste of Home cookbooks. For every day life I cant live without my day planner. Could it have been one of those?
Could have been, I thought it was something along the lines of home management....after 25 yrs you'd think I had it down but, always looking for new ideas of how to streamline things around the house. I'll be checking out the cookbook!
